Mildred (pig). Arrived 12 June 2015
Mildred was seized by metropolitan shire Rangers , as she was being kept on a property in a shire that did not allow pigs, and a complaint was made by previous owner’s neighbours. The owners agreed to surrender her, and Rangers contacted another Perth Sanctuary, who put them onto us at Happy Hooves.
After the required waiting period at the Shire pound with no one applying to take her on, we picked Millie up to bring her to her safe sanctuary. It must have been a very scary experience for her to suddenly find herself taken away from the home she knew, locked in strange place with unfamiliar faces, then driven all that way back to Gidgegannup in the back of a ute, but we gave her plenty of time and reassurances, offered her yummy food and finally figured out the best way to get her off the ute, was for two strong men to lift and lower… there was lots of squealing but Millie ignored it and let the two men lift her off the ute. Seriously though, she did squeal a lot but once off the truck she recovered quickly and was straight into her new digs, rooting around in the fresh hay and taking in all the smells.
She’ll soon be able to join George, Peppa and Rhonda – integrated gradually to make sure they all get on and no one gets picked on!
Would you like to help us to take care of Mildred? One off donations and sponsorship gifts are available now to support our work. Thank you for caring about farm animals.
