Eloise

Eloise (pig) Arrived 20th November 2017

Little Eloise was discovered in somebody’s rear garden. She was collected by rangers and taken to the City of Cockburn pound where she was impounded for 11 days. She was advertised, but no owner came forward so they staff contacted us about the homeless piglet.

Eloise was not alone for long, as not long after her arrival we were contacted about another piglet, around the same age. Eloise was soon joined by Camilla, though the introduction did not go as smoothly as we had hoped – they seemed to hate each other!

They started off living in the hospital barn, in enclosures beside each other so they could get used to one another’s presence. They spent short amounts of time together in one yard, before they had to be separated due to fighting. It was a slow process of introduction, but eventually the two became the best of friends.

The girls have recently moved into the newly completed pig paradise extension, where they currently spend there days wallowing in the mud, and cuddling together at night.

Would you like to help us to take care of Eloise?  One off donations and sponsorship gifts are available now to support our work. Thank you for caring about farm animals.

Sweet Babi Needs a New Home

Location: Karratha

Babi was purchased by her current carers at just 10 weeks old and has been a part of the family ever since. She was sold to them as a miniature pig, but has grown outside of the shires limits for a pet pig. She has become too large and strong to take for walks (on the leash) and trips in the car, as she once had. Concerned the council will find out about her and take her away; her carers have made the difficult decision to rehome their dear Babi.

This pig has a lot of personality; she is curious and playful, intelligent and stubborn and like any of us, she can get a little grumpy from time to time. She understands basic commands like sit, turn around, lay, find and gentle (where she gently takes a treat from your hand).

Babi’s current carer’s are willing to transport her anywhere in WA, or perhaps further to ensure she ends up at the perfect home.

Babi is de-sexed and will be vaccinated before handover to her new family.

Violet

Violet (pig) Arrived 8th May 2017

At just a few days old, tiny piglet Violet arrived at Happy Hooves in a cardboard box. Her mother had given birth to a litter of piglets, but Violet had not been suckling. Due to her behavior, her owner suspected that Violet was blind, and began feeding her milk in a bowl.

A trip to the vet confirmed that Violet was in fact blind. Being that she had been without vision from birth, we were confident that with some extra care she could still live a happy and fulfilling life here at the sanctuary.

For the first three weeks, Violet lived in the house with us. She had a pen set up near the fireplace where she could keep warm and snuggle with her bunny teddy.

Violet is growing up so fast! But her size isn’t the only thing changing. At first we noticed that Violet was able to wander around without bumping into things, that she could follow our movements, as though she was seeing us. A second trip to the vet confirmed that she could see, her vision was somehow returning.

She has since moved out into one of the hospital yards, where she runs around and digs holes through the day, and during the night she sleeps inside the hospital pen with her bunny.

We are so happy that Violet has joined the Happy Hooves family. She is such a gorgeous little girl, and such a pleasure to have around. Now that her vision has returned she will be able to join the other pigs when she is big enough, and live a normal life with her new friends.

Would you like to help us to take care of Violet?  One off donations and sponsorship gifts are available now to support our work. Thank you for caring about farm animals.

Wilson

Wilson (pig) Arrived 16 January 2017

Little Wilson was purchased from Gumtree by his previous carer, in order to save him from the meat industry for which he was destined. Unfortunately he became unwell, developing a skin condition which turned out to be a terrible case of mange. Unable to afford veterinary care and provide for the growing piglet, Wilson’s owners decided to surrender him.

Wilson required immediate vet care and had to be quarantined for over two weeks, to avoid the highly contagious disease spreading to the other animals. He was made as comfortable as possible in our vacant worker’s cottage, alternating between the tiled rooms as he shed dead skin.

When Wilson finally got the all clear from the vet, he moved into one of the hospital nurseries with his own yard. He is absolutely loving it! He is such a happy and energetic little pig, he loves digging around in the dirt, wallowing in the mud and just doing what little pigs do.

He’s growing very quickly, and when he is large enough, he will join the rest of the pigs in a special pig area we aptly named ‘Pig Paradise’.

Would you like to help us to take care of WILSON?  One off donations and sponsorship gifts are available now to support our work. Thank you for caring about farm animals.

Rehomed! ‘Baby’ the Pig

Baby has found a lovely new home at Gidgegannup.

Location: Perth Western Australia

Sweet Baby is a little pig in need of a new home. She was rescued by her current family from an unfit environment where she was not being cared for adequately. Although her family adore her, due to work commitments they are unable to give her the attention she needs & deserves. Baby has been raised alongside the family’s dog, and consequently seems to think she is a dog too as she runs around and barks just like her yard mate! Unfortunately the two don’t get along as well as the family had hoped, thus being another reason we need to find a more suitable home for her.

Baby will be wormed, vaccinated and sterilized before (or soon after) handover to her new family and a heavily discounted adoption fee of $250 applies. Sterilisation is needed for her long term health, wellbeing and to ensure she stays even tempered and as friendly as can be.

QUICK REFERENCE LIST:

NAME:           Baby

AGE:              5 months

BREED:         Saddleback Pig

SEX:              Female

HEIGHT:        60cm (approx.)

WEIGHT:       45kg (approx.)

WORMED:     Yes

DESEXED:     No – but needs to be as part of adoption agreement

VACCINATED:  Yes

TEMPERAMENT: Friendly and playful. Full of energy.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:  Baby is quite bonded to her current family so she will need a lot of TLC in her new home to help her transition and to feel safe and loved. Baby needs a lot of attention so would most suit a family that has time for playing and cuddles, or who may have other animals or a pig to keep her company. Pigs are strong and adventurous so they need a good secure yard that can not only keep them in and safe, but to protect areas of your garden that you do not want demolished. 🙂

ADOPTION FEE:  $250

We hope you can help us to help this lovely pig .. please fill in the form via the “APPLY HERE” button below if you would like to know more, or offer to adopt.

Jacko

Jacko (sheep). Arrived 25 March 2016

Beautiful black-faced Suffolk, Jacko might be thanking his stars that he got hit by a car whilst out exploring with his mother in our neighbourhood. The farmer was glad to get rid of him claiming he was a Houdini. He wasn’t badly injured by the hit – just a bit stunned and given the OK by one of our vets. Now he has a safe and loving forever home with us. Sadly his mother couldn’t come too 🙁
