Eli (pig) Arrived 22nd January 2019 On the 22nd of January 2019 we were contacted by a hobby farmer. Their sow had recently given birth, and one of the newborn piglets was unable to use his right rear leg properly. It was believed that Eli’s injury was due to his mother crushing him. As a result, he was struggling to compete with his siblings to feed. Eli was just a couple of hours old when we picked him up and brought him back to the sanctuary. He was a tiny…

Jacko
Jacko (sheep). Arrived 25 March 2016 Beautiful black-faced Suffolk, Jacko might be thanking his stars that he got hit by a car whilst out exploring with his mother in our neighbourhood. The farmer was glad to get rid of him claiming he was a Houdini. He wasn’t badly injured by the hit – just a bit stunned and given the OK by one of our vets. Now he has a safe and loving forever home with us. Sadly his mother couldn’t come too 🙁 Would you like to help…

Eloise
Eloise (pig) Arrived 20th November 2017 Little Eloise was discovered in somebody’s rear garden. She was collected by rangers and taken to the City of Cockburn pound where she was impounded for 11 days. She was advertised, but no owner came forward so they staff contacted us about the homeless piglet. Eloise was not alone for long, as not long after her arrival we were contacted about another piglet, around the same age. Eloise was soon joined by Camilla, though the introduction did not go as smoothly as we had…

Violet
Violet (pig) Arrived 8th May 2017 At just a few days old, tiny piglet Violet arrived at Happy Hooves in a cardboard box. Her mother had given birth to a litter of piglets, but Violet had not been suckling. Due to her behavior, her owner suspected that Violet was blind, and began feeding her milk in a bowl. A trip to the vet confirmed that Violet was in fact blind. Being that she had been without vision from birth, we were confident that with some extra care she could still live a happy…

Oliver
Oliver (pig) Arrived 17 April 2017 Gorgeous Oliver pig was in need of a new home. The owners of this much loved pig were struggling with health issues within the family, and due to these unforeseen circumstances, they were unable to provide for Oliver long term. Oliver was previously living with two goats, so he wasn’t used to the company of other pigs. After his two weeks in an isolation yard here at the sanctuary, he joined Mildred, George, Peppa and Peppercorn in one of the ‘Pig Paradise’ paddocks.…

Wilson
Wilson (pig) Arrived 16 January 2017 Little Wilson was purchased from Gumtree by his previous carer, in order to save him from the meat industry for which he was destined. Unfortunately he became unwell, developing a skin condition which turned out to be a terrible case of mange. Unable to afford veterinary care and provide for the growing piglet, Wilson’s owners decided to surrender him. Wilson required immediate vet care and had to be quarantined for over two weeks, to avoid the highly contagious disease spreading to the other animals. He was made as comfortable as possible in…

Rachael
Rachael (goat). Arrived 20 December 2015 Rachael was found wandering a southern suburbs park with no collar and no tags, and surrendered to us by the kind woman who found her. She appeared healthy and well-fed, has been wormed and vaccinated and now has two new BFFs in Indie and Tumbles, who she LOVES playing with – so good to see her having some fun as she was very timid and shy when she first arrived. Would you like to help us to take care of Rachael? One off donations…
Liam and Zayn
Liam and Zayn (goats). Arrived 29 January 2016 Liam and Zayn are brothers who found themselves in the care of Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary after Zayn had his leg broken by (we think) a horse, on his previous owner’s property in Toodyay. She was unable to afford the vet bill for the treatment, so contacted us to see if we could help. We took them both on and arranged immediate veterinary treatment for what turned out to be a reasonably straightforward break to his right front leg (radius and ulna)…

Inka
Inka (pig). Arrived 7 November 2015 Beautiful black Inka came to us as a result of a domestic split; her previous owner tried to find a home for her for two months, but no one suitable came forward and he was afraid she would end up eaten, so we gave her a home at Happy Hooves. Inka and Archie have hit it off and you could say they’re going steady – domestic bliss at Pig Paradise. Would you like to help us to take care of Inka? One off…
Marshall
Marshall (pig). Arrived 25 December 2015 (Merry Christmas, Marshall) Marshall… a Christmas miracle – what an horrific story this little piglet must have to tell… Weighing around 6 kg and estimated to be about eight weeks old, he came to us terrified – found on the side of the road, tied inside a feed sack with front legs gaffa-taped and a nose clip (resembles an industrial staple) through the top of his snout – a practice that even the pig industry admits is painful. Happy Hooves Sanctuary staff member, Paul,…

Archie
Archie (pig). Arrived 11 July 2015 Adorable Archie was surrendered to a municipal pound as the owners could not afford the licensing fee. Everyone at the pound fell in love with Archie and pulled out all stops to find him a new forever home even though he was coping well and getting lots of love and belly rubs. When Archie didn’t find a home in time, we of course opted to move him to Happy Hooves, and we’re glad we did – as it turns out, Archie has some significant…
Peppercorn
Peppercorn (pig). Arrived 22 July 2015 This sweet little girl was picked up by a Perth municipal pound, but nobody claimed her and time was running out. Because of the urgency of the situation, we were able to help Peppercorn (then known as ‘Peppa’) find a safe temporary home away from the pound environment with foster carer, Donna. As we couldn’t find a safe permanent home for Peppercorn, we decided to move her to Happy Hooves, but she had to be spayed first – Donna so generously offered to drive…
Lily
Lily: Arrived March 2013 In early 2013, a woman moving over to WA from NSW, approached us about bringing her animals – Lily the pig and Lucy the sheep, to Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary in exchange for volunteering to help the animals – those already here, hers and others to come; she was studying veterinary science and also working with holistic treatment for animals. She had saved Lily and Lucy plus a steer called Davey, as babies, from a production farm situation. Davey was unfortunately not able to be brought…
Joyce
Joyce (pig). Arrived May 2015 Joyce is a Berkshire x Durack pig who ran into a supermarket where, as her good fortune would have it, Paul (Happy Hooves farm hand and animal-lover extraordinaire) was shopping at the time. She obviously knows a compassionate person when she sees one, as she ran straight up to him. She was closely followed by a man chasing her who proclaimed that he had just found her – she had made an escape from somewhere! Paul negotiated Joyce’s release and was able to take her…
Peppa
Peppa (pig). 7 November 2014 Peppa’s story prior to be rescued by Homeless & Abandoned Animal Rescue Team (HAART), is largely unknown – where she escaped form or how she came to be in the bush on her own, we will never know. She was picked up by the ranger after being found on a property in the Toodyay area after being sighted for a week in the bush and caught “trespassing”. When found, she was terrified, starving and covered in lice and ticks. The people who founded HAART looked…
