Gary Sweet (goat): arrived 9 November 2014 Gary was surrendered by a Perth Municipal pound after remaining “in custody” past the standard time – hew was at risk of euthanasia, so naturally we offered him a safe and loving, secure forever home here at Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary. His history is unknown, but when he came to us as an entire buck, we wormed him and administered Vitamin B1 and B12 and vytrate. We noticed perforations along Gary’s pizzle and so took him to the vet for advice. Vet said…

Yuki and Kengi
Yuki and Kengi Arrived 4/10/2014 In early October we took in two adorable little chicks – the end result of a preschool hatching program. If they hadn’t found their way to us they would’ve gone back to the supplier to an unknown and possibly lethal fate, and any brothers would’ve been killed as there is no use for roosters after the program ends. The welfare needs of hatched chicks can often be compromised as many schools do not have a budget for veterinary treatment and lack expert knowledge of their…

Chester
Location: Perth, Western Australia Chester the drake and his lady friends Carrie, Gail and Mandy arrived at the sanctuary in March 2017, after being rescued from an animal hoarder’s property where this little Muscovy family were not being cared for adequately. Since their rescue they have been enjoying their time at Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary. Unfortunately they gave the resident duck Peter a bit of a hard time, so she shacked up with her old mate Pierre the rooster. Would you like to help us to take care of the Animals…
Julio
Julio (Alpaca): Arrived 14 November 2012 UPDATE: May 23, 2017, Sadly today we said farewell and rest in peace to our beautiful old boy Julio. Since Julio came to Happy hooves in 2012 he has been a big favorite amongst volunteers and visitors, he was always a part of the landscape looking out across the paddocks and will be very sorely missed. We love you Julio. Julio is a very regal character, who arrived with Mary (deceased), Jack (deceased), Minty, Lily lamb, Kath, Kel and Lucy. They all came from…

Olive
Olive (sheep). Arrived 6 February 2013 A few months ago a cancerous growth on Olive’s nose ruptured. Despite efforts to treat the wound, the infection continued to worsen as her 13 year old body could no longer fight it. We tried our best to keep her as comfortable as possible,… but we could see her condition was affecting her quality of life – she was experiencing a lot of discomfort and starting to have trouble eating. With the guidance of our vet, we made the painful decision to end her…
Rupert
Rupert (Boer goat – male): Arrived December 2011 Rupert (and brother, Thurman) were found with their two sisters by Mundaring Council and ended up at the Mundaring Shire pound. Their sisters found homes but nobody came to give Rupert and Thurman a home, so a lovely woman who worked at the shire took them to save them from being euthanased and they found their way to us. Rupert is the quieter, better-behaved “lover, not a fighter” goat, whist his brother Thurman is the naughty one, though Rupert does have a…
Angel
Angel (ewe). Arrived: 2011 UPDATE 2 NOVEMBER 2016 Sadly, Angel was found dead in her yard today. Angel had not been unwell and was only checked a couple of hours previously. We suspect a snake bite, or some sudden health issue such as a heart attack or stroke. RIP with the other Angels, sweet girl. Angel is one of the tiniest full-grown ewes we have ever seen, and she ended up with us at Happy Hooves because her boyfriend Krusty got evicted from his home for “aggressive” behaviour. He turned…
Gwyneth Poultry (Gwenny)
Gwenny (White Lace hen) . Arrived 4 June 2015 UPDATE: 7 June 2016. Gwenny was found suddenly very ‘flat’, not eating, tail down and inactive. She was taken to avian specialist who found very large, firm and impacted uterus – probably a tumour. Gwenny was humanely euthanised. The difficult thing about birds is that they will never show that they’re ill until right near the very end when they are too sick to hide it… just days earlier, she was running around and eating with the other chickens. We hope…
Corney
Corney (Ameraucauna rooster). Arrived: 18 August 2013 UPDATE: 10 February 2016 Our hearts were literally broken by the discovery today of our gorgeous boy, Corney, lying dead in the main room of our hospital barn. Corney had been recuperating from a complicated break to his tibia late last October and subsequent surgery to insert a rod to help with repair. He has spent most of this time in isolation in one of the stalls in the hospital barn to allow him to rest and recover and let the leg heal…
Daphne
Daphne (sheep – Dorper). Arrived 30 August 2015 Daphne was rescued after giving birth to twin lambs who tragically, did not survive. One was taken by a fox or possibly a dog, and the other was found dead by her side. Daphne herself was bloated and unable to rise, so she was picked up and driven to vet, where she received treatment and was thankfully saved. We were fully prepared to pay for the vet, but when the owners were contacted to alert them to that fact that we had…
Shaggy
Shaggy (Angora goat – male): Arrived 4 June 2014 Shaggy was surrendered by a Perth Municipal pound after being found abandoned in Woorooloo by rental runner and picked up by the shire. He remained unclaimed and a home was not able to be found for him. He was earmarked for “destruction” (off to the “meat man”), so naturally we offered him a safe and loving, secure forever home here at Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary. Shaggy came to us as a castrated goat, age unknown (possibly old) and possibly Angora Goat.…
Arnie
Arnie (sheep – Dorper). Arrived 16 June 2015 As a tiny lamb, Arnie was saved from a fox attack by a worker at a shearing shed. She hand-reared him for 12 weeks but didn’t have the time to spend on him that she knew he needed and he spent all day alone with only a Rottweiler for companionship… everyone needs to spend time with their own kind, no matter how nice the other species are, so he was surrendered into our care at Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary. Arnie and Baart…
Baart
Baart (sheep). Arrived 5 June 2015 Baart is a gorgeous brown and white Damara lamb with markings that remind us of Bambi. He found his way to Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary after being reared from day one by a woman (who we’ll call “L”) whose neighbour’s sheep gave birth to twins and then rejected them both (normally due to ill heath or malnutrition, but we are unsure of the reason in this case). Baart’s sister was raised by the neighbour, whilst L reared Baart for the first eight weeks of…
Tonto
Tonto (ram lamb). Arrived 30 June 2015 Tonto is a Hampshire x Merino lamb who arrived at Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary with Annie and Ella. He was three weeks old, and had been abandoned by his mum when very small – this breed of sheep are notoriously skittish and unfortunately mothers can easily be scared away from their lambs. A gorgeous couple drove him and the other two all the way from Lake King (480 km), to the sanctuary to make sure they had a safe and secure home to…
Ella
Ella (sheep). Arrived 30 June 2015 Ella is a Hampshire x Merino who arrived at Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary with Tonto and Annie (also Hampshire x Merino). She was just three weeks old, and had been abandoned by her mum when very small – this breed of sheep are notoriously skittish and unfortunately mothers can easily be scared away from their lambs. A gorgeous couple drove her and the other two all the way from Lake King (480 km), to the sanctuary to make sure they had a safe and…
