Ellen DeHeiferis (longhorn Droughmaster cow): Arrived 6 February 2013
Ellen was a stray 3-4 month-old heifer calf picked up from the local pound along with two other sheep (Patrick and Olive (who then gave birth to Sweet Pea) – they were found wandering the area by the council and all of them were very skinny and unclaimed by previous owners. The kind-hearted ranger contacted us to see if we could take them, rather than them facing an uncertain future.
She was very shy and wary when she first came to us, but being an intelligent little heifer, Ellen quickly learnt that we meant her no harm, and with improved nutrition and lots of TLC, she flourished into the beautiful big girl she is today.
She was named Ellen DeHeiferis as she was surrendered on a good friend’s birthday and he was given the honour of naming her. At the time, world-famous animal advocate and vegan, Ellen DeGeneres was touring Australia, so who better to name this strong, spunky individual after than her?!
Busta Moo was a four week-old bobby calf who arrived in July 2014 and he quickly formed a very strong bond with Ellen, seeing her (we guess) as a mother figure, and they have inseparable ever since – sleeping, eating and playing together.
Would you like to help us to take care of Ellen? One off donations and sponsorship gifts are available now to support our work. Thank you for caring about farm animals.
