Our grand old lady definitely had a wonderful long life but alas her weary old body just couldn’t take any more. It has been an honor caring for you Lucy, we will miss you. Rest easy old girl <3 Lucy arrived with Mary (deceased), Jack (deceased), Minty (deceased) Julio, Freckles, Kath and Kel.. They came from a…

Yuki and Kengi
Yuki and Kengi Arrived 4/10/2014 In early October we took in two adorable little chicks – the end result of a preschool hatching program. If they hadn’t found their way to us they would’ve gone back to the supplier to an unknown and possibly lethal fate, and any brothers would’ve been killed as there is no use for roosters after the program ends. The welfare needs of hatched chicks can often be compromised as many schools do not have a budget for veterinary treatment and lack expert knowledge of their…

Chester
Location: Perth, Western Australia Chester the drake and his lady friends Carrie, Gail and Mandy arrived at the sanctuary in March 2017, after being rescued from an animal hoarder’s property where this little Muscovy family were not being cared for adequately. Since their rescue they have been enjoying their time at Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary. Unfortunately they gave the resident duck Peter a bit of a hard time, so she shacked up with her old mate Pierre the rooster. Would you like to help us to take care of the Animals…
Julio
Julio (Alpaca): Arrived 14 November 2012 UPDATE: May 23, 2017, Sadly today we said farewell and rest in peace to our beautiful old boy Julio. Since Julio came to Happy hooves in 2012 he has been a big favorite amongst volunteers and visitors, he was always a part of the landscape looking out across the paddocks and will be very sorely missed. We love you Julio. Julio is a very regal character, who arrived with Mary (deceased), Jack (deceased), Minty, Lily lamb, Kath, Kel and Lucy. They all came from…

Toodyay Trio
Panda, her daughter Possum, and little Nugget were in foster care and looking for a loving home for some time, so we decided to give them a home at the sanctuary. Panda is about 3 years old and her daughter Possum is 4-5 months old, as is young Nugget. Panda has black patches around both eyes, hence the name Panda. Caramel-coloured Nugget is a Boar cross miniature, whilst Panda and her daughter Possum are Alpine cross miniatures. The goats are quite timid around humans due to previous neglect, but they’ll have lots of new…

Oliver
Oliver (pig) Arrived 17 April 2017 Gorgeous Oliver pig was in need of a new home. The owners of this much loved pig were struggling with health issues within the family, and due to these unforeseen circumstances, they were unable to provide for Oliver long term. Oliver was previously living with two goats, so he wasn’t used to the company of other pigs. After his two weeks in an isolation yard here at the sanctuary, he joined Mildred, George, Peppa and Peppercorn in one of the ‘Pig Paradise’ paddocks.…

Olive
Olive (sheep). Arrived 6 February 2013 A few months ago a cancerous growth on Olive’s nose ruptured. Despite efforts to treat the wound, the infection continued to worsen as her 13 year old body could no longer fight it. We tried our best to keep her as comfortable as possible,… but we could see her condition was affecting her quality of life – she was experiencing a lot of discomfort and starting to have trouble eating. With the guidance of our vet, we made the painful decision to end her…
Rupert
Rupert (Boer goat – male): Arrived December 2011 Rupert (and brother, Thurman) were found with their two sisters by Mundaring Council and ended up at the Mundaring Shire pound. Their sisters found homes but nobody came to give Rupert and Thurman a home, so a lovely woman who worked at the shire took them to save them from being euthanased and they found their way to us. Rupert is the quieter, better-behaved “lover, not a fighter” goat, whist his brother Thurman is the naughty one, though Rupert does have a…
Angel
Angel (ewe). Arrived: 2011 UPDATE 2 NOVEMBER 2016 Sadly, Angel was found dead in her yard today. Angel had not been unwell and was only checked a couple of hours previously. We suspect a snake bite, or some sudden health issue such as a heart attack or stroke. RIP with the other Angels, sweet girl. Angel is one of the tiniest full-grown ewes we have ever seen, and she ended up with us at Happy Hooves because her boyfriend Krusty got evicted from his home for “aggressive” behaviour. He turned…
Heff - Rainbow Bridge
Heff: ram. Arrived 4 June 2014 Heff was surrendered by a municipal pound. He was abandoned in Woorooloo by rental runner, picked up by shire, unclaimed and not able to be rehomed. He was due for destruction and “off to the meat man”. Heff is an uncastrated ram, seems to be young and possibly Dorper mix. He was very skinny and with snotty nose when delivered to us and we had little knowledge of his history. He needed to be castrated and for his condition to be improved. Unfortunately, Heff…
Flopsy
Flopsy: (sheep/ewe): Arrived 2011 Rainbow Bridge 12 May 2016: Another long term, favourite resident departs, leaving us heart-broken. Flopsy came to us with two other ewes (Fuzzy & HiTops) in 2011 whilst still in Parkerville. She was a loner and not prone to contact, but had a sweet nature to match her face. She got her name Flopsy from her one floppy ear – a legacy (along with scars from horrific leg injuries) from a serious dog attack early in life. Last year she received veterinary attention for her loss…
Sweet Pea (Nuggin)
Sweet Pea (lamb/whether). Born at Happy Hooves 5 May 2013 UPDATE: We lost Sweet Pea very unexpectedly during crutching and wigging in March 2016 through no one’s fault. He suffered a heart attack and passed quickly – unable to be revived. He is survived by his mother, Olive. R.I.P. Nuggin. Wow… did Sweet Pea ever come as a surprise! Mum, Olive and Patrick (Paddy) were picked up roaming the bush with Ellen DeHeiferis – all very skinny and undernourished. We had no idea that Olive was pregnant right up to…
Corney
Corney (Ameraucauna rooster). Arrived: 18 August 2013 UPDATE: 10 February 2016 Our hearts were literally broken by the discovery today of our gorgeous boy, Corney, lying dead in the main room of our hospital barn. Corney had been recuperating from a complicated break to his tibia late last October and subsequent surgery to insert a rod to help with repair. He has spent most of this time in isolation in one of the stalls in the hospital barn to allow him to rest and recover and let the leg heal…
Lizzie, Ethel and Kevin
Lizzie, Ethel and Kevin (sheep – Wiltshire cross). Arrived 27 September 2015 Lizzie and her twin lambs were found at a semi rural weekend market with about 26 other ewes and lambs bound for immediate slaughter if not purchased. Lizzie was extremely emaciated and unable to feed her lambs – she kept kicking them away or pulling away from them and the lambs, clearly hungry, would try to feed from any other ewe in their pen only to be rejected again and again. Their release was negotiated by some caring…

HiTops
HiTops: (sheep/ewe): Arrived 2011 HiTops arrived with two other ewes – Fuzzy and Flopsy. They were owned by a resident in Parkerville who had them on his property as “lawnmowers’. They would often be moved to our property when our neighbour’s feed ran out and ultimately ended up with us permanently when there was just no more pasture for them. They were also much safer on our property with better fencing – Flopsy had survived an horrific attack by a roaming dog before coming to us, So all three came…
