Albert (goat). Arrived 19 May 2016 Update 29/7/19 This morning we say goodbye to one of the biggest characters we’ve ever had at the sanctuary. Albert had a personality much bigger than his impressive stature. He always left an impression on people, luring them into a false sense of security with his pale blue eyes before taking a big swing with those long horns! Al joined us back in May, 2016 after his carer had passed away. The carer’s daughter lived in suburbia, and didn’t have the space for a…

Gandalf
Gandalf (sheep) Arrived 17th July 2017 Gandalf arrived at Happy Hooves at around six months of age. His carers had found him three weeks prior on a neighbouring property, downed and covered in frost. There was no sign of his mother. They discovered that his front joints were swollen, and he was unable to walk and tried to treat his condition with home remedies. When we collected Gandalf we took his straight to our vet. His joints had seized up, and had become septic. Our vet did not hold high…
Chick Pea, Sweet Pea and Maisie
Chick Pea, Sweet Pea & Maisie (hens). Arrived 2 April 2015 UPDATE: We are very sad to have had to say goodbye to Maisie on Monday 8 June 2015. At six years old, she had lived a very long life for an Isa Brown hen, and all the extra love, care, special food and vet visits just wasn’t enough. Maisie need to let go, so we took her back to our fantastic avian vet and he helped her on her way. We hope you are at peace now, Maisie –…
Maggie
Maggie: Arrived 2002 UPDATE 3 June 2015 Maggie lived a long life, well loved and cared for, but alas her arthritis, her blindness, her age and a really bad turn one morning in June 2015… well it got us to the point where consideration for her life quality and comfort, along with veterinary advice pointed towards the same sad but necessary conclusion… it was kinder to humanely euthanase her than for her to continue living in constant stress (from her blindness) and pain. It was with a very heavy heart…
Jack
Jack (Alpaca): Arrived 14 November 2012 Strikingly handsome Jack arrived with Julio (another alpaca) and sheep Mary (deceased), Minty, Lily lamb, Kath, Kel and Lucy. They all came from a lady who had hand-reared them, but due to illness needed to surrender her entire flock. They had spent most of their lives together. Jack and Julio were inseparable right up to Jack’s death in March 2015. Julio was very depressed for a while but given the new job of looking after some youngster arrivals (Rose, Bud, Petal, Belle, Tully) he…
Minty
Minty (ewe). Arrived 14 November 2012 UPDATE: Minty developed mastitis and pneumonia in November 2014 and despite over two weeks of vet visits and medication treating bacterial infection, she sadly passed away suddenly after showing some improvement, on 18 December 2014. RIP Minty. Minty was originally surrendered to us with 5 other sheep – Mary (deceased), Freckles (aka Lily Lamb), Lucy, Kel and Kath) and two alpacas, Jack (deceased) and Julio. They came from a lady who had hand-reared all of them, but due to illness needed to surrender her…
Bruce the Gentle Goat
UPDATE: 1/11/14 We are all very sad to report that our lovely boy Bruce has gone over the Rainbow Bridge. Bruce was finding it very hard to urinate, we were manually relieving his bladder for him and he wasn’t getting any better. The vet preformed surgery on him and remove a urethra stone, unfortunately this was only a temporary fix and the same problems returned fairly quickly. Surgery was attempted again but we are sad to say dear Bruce died on the operating table. We will always love you Bruce, you will be forever…
