Albert (goat). Arrived 19 May 2016 Update 29/7/19 This morning we say goodbye to one of the biggest characters we’ve ever had at the sanctuary. Albert had a personality much bigger than his impressive stature. He always left an impression on people, luring them into a false sense of security with his pale blue eyes before taking a big swing with those long horns! Al joined us back in May, 2016 after his carer had passed away. The carer’s daughter lived in suburbia, and didn’t have the space for a…

Jacko
Jacko (sheep). Arrived 25 March 2016 Beautiful black-faced Suffolk, Jacko might be thanking his stars that he got hit by a car whilst out exploring with his mother in our neighbourhood. The farmer was glad to get rid of him claiming he was a Houdini. He wasn’t badly injured by the hit – just a bit stunned and given the OK by one of our vets. Now he has a safe and loving forever home with us. Sadly his mother couldn’t come too 🙁 Would you like to help…
Gary Sweet
Gary Sweet (goat): arrived 9 November 2014 Gary was surrendered by a Perth Municipal pound after remaining “in custody” past the standard time – hew was at risk of euthanasia, so naturally we offered him a safe and loving, secure forever home here at Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary. His history is unknown, but when he came to us as an entire buck, we wormed him and administered Vitamin B1 and B12 and vytrate. We noticed perforations along Gary’s pizzle and so took him to the vet for advice. Vet said…
Chewbacca (Chewy)
Chewbacca (steer). Arrived 31 May 2016 Chewy was rescued from a home that urgently needed to get rid of an abundance of animals; he faced a high probability of being shot had one of our beautiful Happy Hooves supporters not found him and rescued him. He is a Scottish Western Highland breed and won’t get much bigger than he is now, though his horns might continue to grow. Chewy now shares a paddock and shelter with Sweet William – BFFs! Would you like to help us to take care of…
Gabby
Gabby (turkey) Arrived 27 June 2016 Sadly Gabby passed away 2nd January 2018 Gabby is the first ever turkey to come and live with us! She was surrendered to a vet for euthanisation, with the former owner claiming she was attacking the hens she lived with. We asked the vet to hold on to her until we could pick her up, which we did, and brought her back to the sanctuary. We decided to try her out with the roosters first after she followed them into their pen one evening…
Julio
Julio (Alpaca): Arrived 14 November 2012 UPDATE: May 23, 2017, Sadly today we said farewell and rest in peace to our beautiful old boy Julio. Since Julio came to Happy hooves in 2012 he has been a big favorite amongst volunteers and visitors, he was always a part of the landscape looking out across the paddocks and will be very sorely missed. We love you Julio. Julio is a very regal character, who arrived with Mary (deceased), Jack (deceased), Minty, Lily lamb, Kath, Kel and Lucy. They all came from…
Peter
Peter (duck – Appleyard x). Arrived 20 November 2015 This stunningly beautiful duck was rescued from Tomato Lake, Belmont, suffering from botulism; she was given intensive care by one of the wonderful WA Seabird Rescue people, but was unable to stay in suburbia due to her very loud and frequent quacking; she was brought to Happy Hooves where she still has a little bit of rehabilitation to do. Peter hangs out with the hens and is even starting to sound like she’s learning to cluck! Would you like to…
Rupert
Rupert (Boer goat – male): Arrived December 2011 Rupert (and brother, Thurman) were found with their two sisters by Mundaring Council and ended up at the Mundaring Shire pound. Their sisters found homes but nobody came to give Rupert and Thurman a home, so a lovely woman who worked at the shire took them to save them from being euthanased and they found their way to us. Rupert is the quieter, better-behaved “lover, not a fighter” goat, whist his brother Thurman is the naughty one, though Rupert does have a…
Angel
Angel (ewe). Arrived: 2011 UPDATE 2 NOVEMBER 2016 Sadly, Angel was found dead in her yard today. Angel had not been unwell and was only checked a couple of hours previously. We suspect a snake bite, or some sudden health issue such as a heart attack or stroke. RIP with the other Angels, sweet girl. Angel is one of the tiniest full-grown ewes we have ever seen, and she ended up with us at Happy Hooves because her boyfriend Krusty got evicted from his home for “aggressive” behaviour. He turned…

Sally
Sally (pig) Arrived 26 October 2016 Sally was only three months old when found for sale on a social network site. Someone alerted us to the fact and after speaking to the other sanctuaries, we agreed to take her with the condition that, in line with our rescue policy, no money was to be paid for her. Her awesome rescuers managed to talk the vendor out of $300 and into surrendering her, and she is now safe from harm at her new forever home, Happy Hooves. She is WAY too…
Lani
Lani (goat) Arrived 11 August 2016 Lani was impounded by a municipal council after being surrendered by her owner, who was having trouble containing her on his Perth Hills property, and after complaints from neighbours. The Shire contacted us to see if we could take her, and so she joins our trip of 19 other goats. She was about four months old when she came to us and is initially hanging out with Mimi, Tumbles and Isla the other small females, and Zayn who is still a bit slow from…

Gazza
Gazza (lamb) Arrived 11 September 2016 Gazza was bought on a whim as a “pet” and then dumped with a mate by original purchaser. Said mate did his very best to look after little Gazza, but didn’t have the time or know-how required, so his grandmother got in touch with us to ask if we could take him. He is in great condition, but maybe a little small for his age, which could have to do with the milk powder type and strength he was being given. He was also…
Gwyneth Poultry (Gwenny)
Gwenny (White Lace hen) . Arrived 4 June 2015 UPDATE: 7 June 2016. Gwenny was found suddenly very ‘flat’, not eating, tail down and inactive. She was taken to avian specialist who found very large, firm and impacted uterus – probably a tumour. Gwenny was humanely euthanised. The difficult thing about birds is that they will never show that they’re ill until right near the very end when they are too sick to hide it… just days earlier, she was running around and eating with the other chickens. We hope…
Betty Lou, Charlene, Daisy Mae, Marlene, Sue Ellen, and Thelma
The Trailer Trash Girls (hens). Arrived 4 May 2015 UPDATE 5 AUGUST 2016: Sue Ellen has joined the other Trailer Trash hens over the Rainbow Bridge. She succumbed to egg peritonitis after bravely battling it for a couple of months – coming good twice with vet treatment, draining the abdomen and antibiotics. We are so glad we could give them some joy and love in their short lives. May they all forage free in peace now. Sadly, Sue Ellen is now the last remaining hen out of these six ladies.…
Heff - Rainbow Bridge
Heff: ram. Arrived 4 June 2014 Heff was surrendered by a municipal pound. He was abandoned in Woorooloo by rental runner, picked up by shire, unclaimed and not able to be rehomed. He was due for destruction and “off to the meat man”. Heff is an uncastrated ram, seems to be young and possibly Dorper mix. He was very skinny and with snotty nose when delivered to us and we had little knowledge of his history. He needed to be castrated and for his condition to be improved. Unfortunately, Heff…
