Minnie (sheep). Arrived 3 April 2015 Minnie was surrendered to us by her previous owner because of ongoing fly strike and infection problems around her tail. Minnie is a BIG girl – very overweight, and her tail was fat and heavy and we thought this was the reason she has been unable to lift it to urinate. We cleaned her up when she came to us and clipped off all excess wool around the area, but as she was unable to lift her tail, the problem would have been ongoing…

Busta Moo
Busta Moo (Holstein Fresian calf/steer). Arrived: 17 July 2014 Busta was owned by some inexperienced people (when it comes to caring for farm animals) who quickly tired of the high level of care a young calf needs and started thinking about selling him or expediting his trip to their dinner plate. Lucky for this little guy, a very caring girl who had just received some money for her 16th birthday, got wind of his plight and asked the owners to sell him to her so that she may save him. Fortunately…
Ellen DeHeiferis
Ellen DeHeiferis (longhorn Droughmaster cow): Arrived 6 February 2013 Ellen was a stray 3-4 month-old heifer calf picked up from the local pound along with two other sheep (Patrick and Olive (who then gave birth to Sweet Pea) – they were found wandering the area by the council and all of them were very skinny and unclaimed by previous owners. The kind-hearted ranger contacted us to see if we could take them, rather than them facing an uncertain future. She was very shy and wary when she first came to us,…
Beau & Jangles
Beau & Jangles (goats). Arrived 26 January 2015 Originally nameless and facing imminent slaughter, Beau & Jangles were rescued and arrived safely at Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary after 8 hours of traveling. The two boys were originally quite shy and fearful, but have settled in really well, and we relished the task of ensuring their health, and teaching them about the Happy Hooves way of life. They have left their quarantine imposition and joined the rest of the fellas, Rupert, Thurman, Gary Sweet, Pogo and Shaggy, and seem to be loving…
Precious Petal
Petal the lamb arrived 18 February 2015 This sweet little girl was rejected by her mum and so with nobody to raise her, the farmer was going to put her down. However a kindly employee couldn’t stand the idea that this little life would be extinguished, and so she volunteered to take her on and try to find a good home for her. We were contacted about Petal’s dilemma and we found a great home for her with some wonderful people, but unfortunately they could not take her on for…

Rose and Bud
Rose and Bud (lambs). Arrived 16 December 2014 These two lambs were surrendered to us by a lady who originally rescued them from being killed at birth, simply because they were born out of season. The kind young woman was in Western Australia doing work experience involving animal sciences at a farm, she looked after the little babies until she had to return home to Ireland. She has surrendered the precious gifts that are Rose and Bud to us so we could continue caring for them and raising them in our unique “Happy…
Outback Bess
Bess Arrived 8 October 2014 Introducing Bess – an older female sheep and our newest recruit who was found in bushland, heavy with wool and severely flyblown. Rescued by angels and brought to us on 8 October 2014. Those who found Bess had her treated at the vets and sheared, and now she’s come to us for ongoing wound management and a new life. She has fight in her, this one – kneecapping one of her saviours out of fear. So we’ve named her after a famous Aussie bushranger –…
David
This is the story of David, the little sheep who faced a giant of an obstacle, and lived to tell the tale. On 16 September 2014, a little lamb was surrendered to us with a severe case of scours (diarrhoea) which his owners had tried in vain to treat. Sadly however, he failed to improve so in a last ditch effort to save his life, they handed him over to us. It turned out that David’s problems were much bigger than just worms – he also had a very nasty…
George
George (pig): Arrived: 24 May 2014. Introducing the gorgeous and sweet-natured little pig called George. The family that bought this little guy were not adequately informed about the destructive habits of pigs – it is very natural for a pig to dig great big holes (called “rooting”), a trait that is not well received in suburban gardens. George’s new family didn’t know that he would soon turn their paved back yard into an excavation site – which meant they had to try to contain him in fenced off areas but…
Leela
Leela: Arrived 5 May 2014 This sweet and quiet-mannered Damara sheep was owned by a small hobby farmer when she developed a severe eye infection from a suspected injury. The eye didn’t respond to the basic first aid provided by her owner, and quickly became very red, swollen and infected. Leela needed vet attention which her owner could not afford, and as she was a “farm animal”, her injury increased the likelihood of her meeting her end and becoming someone’s dinner. However, luckily for Leela the farmer had a tender spot…
