Eloise (pig) Arrived 20th November 2017 Little Eloise was discovered in somebody’s rear garden. She was collected by rangers and taken to the City of Cockburn pound where she was impounded for 11 days. She was advertised, but no owner came forward so they staff contacted us about the homeless piglet. Eloise was not alone for long, as not long after her arrival we were contacted about another piglet, around the same age. Eloise was soon joined by Camilla, though the introduction did not go as smoothly as we had…

Roger (rooster) Arrived 1st September 2017 In late August little Roger the rooster turned up on someone’s porch, that someone happened to be afraid of roosters. He loitered on their front porch, peaking in the door. Happy Hooves were contacted about the rogue rooster, and his reign of terror came to an end. He was picked up and transported to the sanctuary where he joined his new best friend, Rusty. The pair are getting along wonderfully and are enjoying sanctuary life.   Would you like to help us to take…

Gabby (turkey) Arrived 27 June 2016 Sadly Gabby passed away 2nd January 2018 Gabby is the first ever turkey to come and live with us! She was surrendered to a vet for euthanisation, with the former owner claiming she was attacking the hens she lived with. We asked the vet to hold on to her until we could pick her up, which we did, and brought her back to the sanctuary. We decided to try her out with the roosters first after she followed them into their pen one evening…

Arlo (sheep) Arrived 5th November 2017 In early November we were contacted be someone in the local area who had a few sheep that they were breeding, apparently one of the lambs wasn’t doing so well. When we arrived to pick up the little Damara-cross, he was very flat and suffering with an eye infection. After picking him up, he was taken to the vet so his eye could be assessed – he was treated with antibiotics and eye drops twice daily. After his treatment, Arlo’s eye was as good…

Donut (sheep) Arrived 4th July 2017 On the 4th of July (2017), we were contacted about a little lamb less than 24 hours old. A lady had taken on the lamb (who was later named donut due to the ring pattern on the top of his head) though she had little knowledge on how to care for such a young lamb. With the help of some volunteers Donut was brought to Happy Hooves the same day, arriving late that night. The next day he was taken to our vet for…

Jackson (goat) Arrived 27th June 2017 On the 26th of June we received a phone call from a young man claiming to have found an infant goat wandering the streets. Worried that the kid may be hungry and well overdue for a feed, we had one of our volunteers rush to pick him up and bring him to the sanctuary to be fed and assessed. As it turns out, the young man and his friends had purchased Jackson whilst intoxicated, a couple of weeks prior. They decided to surrender the goat to…

Harry (sheep) Arrived 26th June 2017 Harry is a young merino lamb who was born on a farm, and left orphaned when his mother passed. As the owner’s of the farm were unable to provide adequate care for him – Harry wound up here at Happy Hooves. He’s a very affectionate little boy, and has settled in well with the current group of young lambs – Evie, Lacey, Donut, Nigel, Fergus and Angus, and the little goat kid Jackson. When Harry and his lamb friends are a little bigger they will…

Evie (lamb) Arrived 20th June 2017 Young Evie was the victim of a brutal dog attack. The mauled lamb was found by a member of the public, and had been dropped off at Armadale pound. One of our volunteers immediately went and picked her up and took her to our vet, where she stayed for three nights to undergo treatment for her wounds. She had suffered lacerations to her face and neck, and her right eye was damaged beyond repair. We were not prepared for what we saw when Evie arrived at…

Lacey (sheep) Arrived 18th June 2017 Lacey was just a few days old when her mother passed away. We were contacted by her owners who desperately wanted to find her a good home. They wished they could raise her themselves, but as they owned large dogs, they were concerned for the safety of the orphaned lamb. At first Lacey was not keen on suckling from a bottle, but she is slowly got the hang of it. Caring for her in the beginning involved bottle feeds all around the clock, and we took turns doing…

Laila (goat) Arrived 8th June 2017 In early June we received a call from Cockburn Pound, they had picked up a little goat that was found wandering. Unable to find her owner, they contacted us. Laila was picked up the next day and brought back to the sanctuary. She was in rather poor condition when she first arrived, but has steadily gained weight and is now a healthy size. She is a sweet-natured goat, inquisitive and loves human interaction. In her short time here she has already gained popularity with the HH…

Violet (pig) Arrived 8th May 2017 At just a few days old, tiny piglet Violet arrived at Happy Hooves in a cardboard box. Her mother had given birth to a litter of piglets, but Violet had not been suckling. Due to her behavior, her owner suspected that Violet was blind, and began feeding her milk in a bowl. A trip to the vet confirmed that Violet was in fact blind. Being that she had been without vision from birth, we were confident that with some extra care she could still live a happy…

Cuddles (goat) Arrived 21 April 2017 In April 2017 we received a phone call from an animal pound. A little goat had been discovered homeless and wandering around on someone’s property. Soon after he was picked up and brought to his forever home at Happy Hooves. He is a bit of a wild boy – not tame, and not at all interested in being around humans, so we affectionately named him ‘Cuddles’. He has since joined the goat herd, where he is happy and making lots of new friends.   Would you like to…

Benji (rooster) Arrived 25 March 2017 Benji’s story is one we have heard time and time again. His previous owner purchased some 7-week old Bantam chickens, sexed as females. As the hens began to mature, it became evident that Benji was in fact a male – A beautiful little Belgian Bantam rooster. As his owner’s resided in suburbia, they were unable to keep Benji and contacted us for assistance. We weren’t sure how Benji and our resident bantam King Louis would react to each other. After a short time in quarantine, Benji was…

Banjo (goat) Arrived: 7 April 2017 Gorgeous Banjo was picked up from the Armadale pound back in early April. He had been found wandering in a rural area of the town. With no ear tags, his owner was unable to be identified. The young goat was in poor physical condition, and his  little ears appeared to have been badly mauled and torn by an another animal (we assume a dog). He was taken to our vet for immediate treatment. Banjo’s ears have healed nicely, and this sweet boy is settling into his new home at Happy Hooves. Currently he shares a…

Ghleanna and Wilma (cows) Arrived 24 February 2017 These two beautiful cows have been part of a happy family for the past 10 years, living on a lovely property in the Perth hills. Their vegetarian carers love them dearly, and have always taken great care of them. But sadly, the family faced some very difficult challenges last year, and have had to sell their property and rehome their beloved Dexter’s. Ghleanna is 6 years old, and her lovely natured calf Wilma is 4. Ghleanna boasts a magnificent set of horns, as her previous carers thought…
