Sweet William (Hereford steer) Arrived 27 March 2016 Sweet William (affectionately known as ‘Swill’) was born into the beef industry. Unluckily for him, his mother had dried up and had no milk for him; she was also at a stage where she could produce no more calves, so was sent to slaughter. William being a male calf mean that it was not worth the farmer’s time to hand-raise him for “beef” seeing as his mother couldn’t feed him for the next 6-8 months, so he looked for someone who would…

Chubby Belardi and Poppy
Chubby Belardi and Poppy (sheep) Arrived 17 July 2016 Twin lambs Chubby Belardi (male) and Poppy (female) were found orphaned or rejected, by a couple of backpackers on the farm they were working, east of Albany. The farm owner agreed to them hand-rearing them and so they did just that. At the end of their two month stint on the farm, they couldn’t bear the thought of the twins ending up being sent to slaughter, so they asked if they could find them a forever home. The farmer agreed and…

Ruby
Ruby (sheep) Arrived 15 July 2016 Ruby was found trying to suckle from her dead mother on a local farm. Messages were left for the farmer, but as we had no response, she now has a forever home here with us. We estimate she was about two weeks old when found, and must have received first milk from mum to have survived as long as she did, including weathering the severe rain and storms we had in the two weeks prior to finding her. Uncharacteristically, we had no other rescue…
The Fantastic Four
Mikey, Roy, Rusty and Valentino (roosters) Arrived 15 May 2016 These four handsome hunks came to us via a friend whose neighbour bought young (what she thought were) hens from a heritage breeder. When it turned out that four of them were in fact roosters, she was going to return them to the trader, but was told they would likely be put down. So here they are with us, taking our total to seven roosters. They alternate with the hens to free-range so that there’s no hanky panky, and it’s…
Mimi
Mimi (goat). Arrived 30 May 2016 Sweet little Mimi comes from a very sad place. Her and her smaller sister were orphaned after their previous “owner” decided it would be a good idea to kill their mother so his children could hand-rear the kids. If that’s not tragic enough, Mimi’s twin sister didn’t make it – probably through a lack of mum’s first milk colostrum that all mammals need in the first few hours of birth. But where there is evil, there is also good and we thank both Greener…
