Lenny & Larry (roosters) Arrived 13th May 2018
This pair of lucky Andalusian roosters narrowly avoided slaughter after a caring person rescued them. They made the trip into the Perth Hills to their forever home here at the sanctuary. Here they will live the life they deserve, being loved and cared for and enjoying each other’s friendship for (we hope) many years to come.
Unfortunately the third rooster was kept by the original owner, we assume for breeding. There are so many people still hatching or raising chicks in the intent of having their own brood of egg-layers, but chances are that half of those eggs will hatch roosters. As roosters are not permitted to be kept in suburban areas, these boys often find themselves in dire circumstances and often killed as an unwanted by-product. Sanctuaries are being contacted almost daily about unwanted roosters. They are being dumped in bush land, in neighbour’s yards and on the sides of roads to fend for themselves. These guys deserve better.
