Kidney Bean Burger

 Kidney Bean Burgers - YUMMY!

Wow, I just tried this awesome recipe which I found on www.vegweb.com.  These are VERY tasty – look for my comments at the bottom of the page (I’m the user called “Gawok”), where I share how I changed the recipe around a little – the results were very nice indeed!  In case you have trouble with this link to the recipe, I’ve detailed the basic recipe below.  You’ll be very happy to know that this meal is HEALTHY and not a single animal had to live in a cage or tiny enclosure for you to enjoy this delicious dish. 😀

Kidney Bean Burger

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

  • kidney beans, drained and rinsed well
  • 1 onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 3/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/8 cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • egg replacer (such as Ener-G)
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • salt to taste (I use 1 teaspoon)

Directions: I used two, 200 gram cans of kidney beans. I don’t know the English measurements though. Perhaps 16 oz.?

Preheat the oven to 220 Celsius (or about 425 F). In a food processor, roughly chop garlic and onion. Add the rest of the ingredients and blend well. I like my burgers fairly chunky so after pulsing the processor a few times, I went in with my hands and mixed the ingredients. It preserves the texture and you get dirty which makes cooking so much more fun.

Spray a bit of oil on a pan and form patties (6-8). Bake for about 10-15 minutes on each side.Enjoy!  Serves: 6Preparation time: 40 minutes

  1. Thanks Maree, will definitely have to try this! Sometimes I crave kidney beans and I can just eat them right out of the can. Or I should say I do eat them right out of the can because I’m craving them so much I don’t want to wait until I make something else from them!
