Gorgeous Ducks Need a New Dwelling

Location: Perth

Peking ducks DJ and his female companions Squeaky, Louie and Nilla are currently in need of a new home. They are much loved companions, but sadly due to unforeseen circumstances, their owners’ are no longer in a position to keep them.

These four ducks are hand reared and therefore are very sociable and comfortable around humans. They have wonderful personalities. DJ and his friends have enjoyed a close relationship with their humans, from donning “duck nappies” and hanging out inside the house to going for road trips in the car.

The more time you give, the more love you get back from them“.

DJ loves cuddles and nibbling on toes (but not everyone’s) the owner’s think of it as a kind of “love tap”. Squeaky is very smart and has a huge personality for a little duck – she thinks she is the boss! She also enjoys a cuddle, and loves to run around and go for a swim. Louie has a beautiful nature, she can be a little nervous around new people or things, though she is very loving and playful when she feels comfortable. She loves bugs! Nilla can also be shy around new people but loves to talk and cuddle when she is comfortable, and she loves her lettuce!

We love each one so much. They have so many quirks, we can sit and play with them for hours, they are able to be hand fed and picked up – they love cuddles“.          – Owners.

Animal Actionist promotes non breeding of all rescued animals, particularly in the interest of breaking the cycle of unwanted farm animals (most of them males,) that find themselves with little time to find a new home and end up in danger of slaughter. All farm animals adopted via Animal Actionist are intended as family pets, and therefore the same rules that apply for non breeding of cats and dogs, applies to these animals too. If you apply to adopt you thereby agree and are bound to not use this animal for breeding.

All suitable applications are forwarded to the current custodian for consideration, and you will be contacted as soon as possible to discuss your offer further. Please understand that it may take a few days for us to respond to you depending on the amount of applications received, and it is never a case of first come, first served with animal adoptions, as we have to do our best to locate the absolute best homes for the animals. If you have any problems or further queries, please contact Animal Actionist direct via the “contact us” link. Thank you so much for caring for animals.

Violet

Violet (pig) Arrived 8th May 2017

At just a few days old, tiny piglet Violet arrived at Happy Hooves in a cardboard box. Her mother had given birth to a litter of piglets, but Violet had not been suckling. Due to her behavior, her owner suspected that Violet was blind, and began feeding her milk in a bowl.

A trip to the vet confirmed that Violet was in fact blind. Being that she had been without vision from birth, we were confident that with some extra care she could still live a happy and fulfilling life here at the sanctuary.

For the first three weeks, Violet lived in the house with us. She had a pen set up near the fireplace where she could keep warm and snuggle with her bunny teddy.

Violet is growing up so fast! But her size isn’t the only thing changing. At first we noticed that Violet was able to wander around without bumping into things, that she could follow our movements, as though she was seeing us. A second trip to the vet confirmed that she could see, her vision was somehow returning.

She has since moved out into one of the hospital yards, where she runs around and digs holes through the day, and during the night she sleeps inside the hospital pen with her bunny.

We are so happy that Violet has joined the Happy Hooves family. She is such a gorgeous little girl, and such a pleasure to have around. Now that her vision has returned she will be able to join the other pigs when she is big enough, and live a normal life with her new friends.

Would you like to help us to take care of Violet?  One off donations and sponsorship gifts are available now to support our work. Thank you for caring about farm animals.
