Jasmine

Jasmine (sheep) Arrived 8 December 2016

Sweet Jasmine and her adorable brother Joey were left orphaned at just one week (approximately) of age. The motherless pair were found on a property north of here, by a young backpacker. The owner of the farm on which they were discovered was disinterested in the lambs’ welfare and suggested they be destroyed.

This was not an option for the young woman, and she found herself caring for the lambs as best she could. As she would be leaving the country in a couple of weeks, she was desperate to find these two babies a new home, somewhere they would be safe and cared for. The HHFS team were alerted to the situation, and after a 270km round trip, the orphaned babies had arrived here at Happy Hooves, their forever home.

After an initial vet check, both lambs seemed to be doing well, then young Joey quickly took a turn for the worst. His appetite decreased dramatically, and his whole demeanor changed. The normally spritely little lamb had become flat and unenthusiastic, while his sister Jasmine ran circles around him.

Thankfully Joey’s condition was nothing too serious. The change in diet (from powdered cows’ milk, to a special formula milk designed for infant farm animals) had resulted in an upset tummy. After 24 hours of Lectade, Joey was back to his former self. Luckily, Jazzy never had a problem with the change of milk, and from day one guzzled her bottles at super speed!

Both lambs are doing wonderfully, every day they’re out in their yard, running around, sproinking and enjoying the sun. Both are gaining weight quickly – it’s not surprising when you see their fat little bellies after feed time!

For now they have an oversized teddy bear and each other for company, but when the time is right, they will join our flock of over 40 sheep, and we’re sure they will make an abundance of woolly friends. But for now, we are all just enjoying this precious baby stage, because as we all know, babies grow up much too quickly!

Would you like to help us to take care of JOEY AND JASMINE?  One-off donations and sponsorship gifts are available now to support our work. Thank you for caring about farm animals.

Rehomed! Toodyay Trio Find a New Home

4th May 2017 Update: Panda, Possum and Nugget have found a new home at Happy Hooves Farm Sanctuary where they get to stay together. We’re certain these three will live a happy life together.

Location: Toodyay WA

Panda, her daughter Possum, and little Nugget are currently in foster care and looking for a loving home. Panda is about 3 years old and her daughter Possum is 4-5 months old, as is young Nugget.

Panda has black patches around both eyes, hence the name Panda. Caramel-coloured Nugget is a Boar cross miniature, whilst Panda and her daughter Possum are Alpine cross miniatures.

The goats are quite timid around humans due to previous neglect, but should warm to a loving owner over time.

All three will be wormed and vaccinated before handover to their new family/s, and an adoption fee of $50 each applies (less if they are adopted as a pair, or threesome). We really would prefer mother and daughter (Panda & Possum) to be homed together.
