Chooky found his own home about 12 months ago when he wandered onto a hills property and claimed a tree for a bed. He crept his way into the homeowners heart and she created a lovely box up in the tree for him so he would be safe from the elements. Unfortunately, she lives in a shire that does not allow roosters and despite the fact that Chooky is very happy in his current home, she must move him on. Here’s a little story about him from Gill…

Chooky is a tame rooster with heaps of personality. To get to his bed, he jumps on a rubbish bin then jumps into his bed. He does prefer to climb onto your hand and get lifted to his bed, from the bin, and then have his wattles and cheeks rubbed while he enjoys a bedtime snack of grapes, biscuit crumbs and wheat. He is very funny. I then have to pull up Black plastic across the opening to keep it dark but have been doing that late at night because it is too hot to do that in summer. Before bedtime he likes to hang out with us. His best friends are 3 visiting kangaroos. He hangs out with them all day and eats from the same bowl, especially with the mother and her new joey. He thinks he’s a kangaroo and protects their food from the crows and magpies. He doesn’t attack the birds, just boldly walks up and they move on.”

This gorgeous fellow must go to a really good home, but very quickly, as the Shire is putting pressure on her to get rid of him ASAP.

QUICK REFERENCE LIST:

NAME: Chooky

AGE: 18 months

BREED: Orpington cross (possibly)

WORMED: No (will be done before handover to new home)

PARASITE PREVENTION: Will be treated with flea and mite spray before handover.

TEMPERAMENT: Friendly, loves a scratch and to hang out with kangaroos. Not too fond of crows though.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:  Chooky would do best in a free range environment but would need secure housing for night time to prevent predator attack. Roosters are restricted to councils that allow the keeping of them due to the noise they create with their adorable crows. Please be sure to check with your local council before you offer to adopt. Please note that this rooster is NOT offered for breeding or eating.

* Animal Actionist promotes non breeding of all rescued animals, particularly in the interest of breaking the cycle of unwanted farm animals (most of them males,) that find themselves with little time to find a new home and end up in danger of slaughter. All farm animals adopted via Animal Actionist are intended as family pets, and therefore the same rules that apply for non breeding of cats and dogs, applies to these animals too. If you apply to adopt you thereby agree and are bound to not use this animal for breeding.

All suitable applications are forwarded to the current custodian for consideration, and you will be contacted as soon as possible to discuss your offer further. Please understand that it may take a few days for us to respond to you depending on the amount of applications received, and it is never a case of first come, first served with animal adoptions, as we have to do our best to locate the absolute best homes for the animals. If you have any problems or further queries, please contact Animal Actionist direct via the “contact us” link. Thank you so much for caring for animals.
